Justin Estrera

VC – CFO

Justin has been involved in the alternative asset management space for 20 years. Prior to joining Kranz, he had served as a Chief Financial Officer and subsequently Chief Accounting Officer of Wave Financial (now Wave Digital Assets), a Los Angeles-based SEC-registered investment adviser to venture capital funds and investment vehicles focused on the digital assets space.  At Wave, he built and managed a finance and accounting team during a time of tremendous growth.

Most of his career has been spent serving the industry in public accounting. Justin started with Ernst & Young (EY) in San Francisco as part of the financial services audit practice, where he served venture capital funds, private equity funds, hedge funds, and funds-of-funds and their managers. Justin was also an Audit Senior Manager in EY’s Los Angeles office where he provided audit and assurance services to registered funds, business development companies, and broker-dealers in addition to venture capital, private equity and hedge funds managed by both emerging managers and established institutions.

He also served emerging and middle-market investment managers of credit/debt funds, cannabis venture funds, private equity funds, multi-manager funds, and hedge funds as an Audit Senior Manager in CohnReznick’s financial services practice in Los Angeles. At both EY and CohnReznick, Justin was involved in campus recruiting, learning and development, diversity and inclusion, and cross-border team integration initiatives.

Justin has been a CFO at a boutique litigation finance vehicle, which provided financing and liquidity to plaintiffs and law firms engaged in meritorious civil litigation and arbitration. He also a Vice President, Finance / Corporate Accounting for a large, East Coast-based hedge fund manager, where he led a team maintaining U.S. GAAP, local GAAP, and tax-basis books for numerous overseas legal vehicles.

Justin has been involved with many industry-focused organizations and charitable causes. In April 2019, he was named to a list of “Most Influential Minority CPAs” in the Los Angeles Business Journal.

Justin graduated from UCLA with a B.A. in Business Economics, with honors, and a minor in accounting. He is a Certified Public Accountant (inactive) licensed in California.
